Vang Vieng Haven, Laos

With its peace and quiet, Vang Vieng is an excellent antidote for stressed out urban dwellers. If you're still dithering on a holiday destination, these pictures might help you to come to a decision. During the day I explored the place on my rented bicycle, and when dusk fell a Beer Lao and Laotian fried rice were the  perfect way to round up the day.

Observe farmers at work on their farms.

On one side of the town lie the farms and karst hills. There are caves here for exploration.

The River Nam Song where tubing is carried out.

Skimpily-clad western backpackers sun worshipping. (click the image for an XL view if you're curious but only if you're 18)

  2. You're right, the caves are quite far if you walk. I may be wrong but I'm certain it's Nam Song as Nam means water while Song is the name. Wow, jeepney ride! I went by van...not so exciting, rather ho-hum in fact.

  3. I am very unschooled with SEAsian countries.

Did you say I've got a lot to learn?
Well don't think I'm trying not to learn
Since this is the perfect spot to learn
    Teach me tonight...

  4. Western backpackers as a rule choose this region. When I asked them why the common reply is "It's so different." Anyway, one man's heaven is another man's hell.

  5. A simple and basic place. But, it looks like a paradise to me! Picture 2 is gorgeous - the river, the hills and lush greenery. AWESOME!

I missed those peace, quiet, calm and tranquil moments :)

    Cheers!
