Notice the coconut trees? Hainan is full of coconut trees, giving it a tropical atmosphere. As Sanya is in the south of Hainan, it's hot while Haikou in the north is pleasantly cool. I noticed that coconut juice is a favourite with the locals.
Sanya beach
Sanya beach is not nice compared to Dadonghai, a nicer beach about 10 -minute cab ride away. Sanya is crammed with hotels.
Sanya beach: domestic tourists
While northern China freezes over this year, Sanya is hot. I wasn't surprised that Hainan in January is very popular with the mainland Chinese.
Comment on the last comment. 'Frisco has the largest Chinatown in the world. When I was there a Caucasian remarked, "You chaps produce like marmots!"
ReplyDeleteI smiled and agreed.
I will visit this island soon. Beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteI have just learnt that the floating mountains in the movie, 'Avatar' was inspired by the unique scenery in China.
Director James Cameron himself, reportedly said the famed Huangshan range in Anhui province was the source of the film’s scenery.
They have the space too so maybe reproducing "like marmots" would not be a bad idea.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that China was in some way inspirational in the production of Avatar.
So there is really a lot of coconut trees in Hainan Island. When I was in secondary school, a group of us always joked with our Hainanese friends by saying that their ancestors ate coconuts, drank coconut water and even used coconuts as floats.
ReplyDeleteYes, my dear. Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is located in the southwest part of Wulingyuan Scenic Spot which is situated in the northwest part of Hunan Province.
ReplyDeleteJames Cameron used the mountain scenery for his 'Pandora hanging mountains' in 'Avatar'. Go see the movie in 3D before it's too late.
@Andy, haven't seen Avatar yet.
ReplyDelete@Teoh, I didn't hear of this joke as a teen. The moment I stepped out of Hainan airport, I saw all these coconut trees.
